"I am grateful to live in an exquisite natural setting, doing artwork for a living and being able to return a portion of my royalties from licensing to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment which has always been a source of joy and inspiration to me. My paintings are done as prayers and have become a form of meditation. The images are messengers, and a means of awareness and thanksgiving."
As a young child, Judith Ann Griffith combined her love of drawing with the joy of exploring the fields and forest surrounding her home. Her early interaction with the natural world in Bucks County, Pennsylvania gave her a sense of security, wonder and belonging that still serves to inspire all her work. Judith finally settled in the woods near Eureka Springs in 1980 and now lives with her husband, Don Matt, on Ninestone Land Trust. There they have established permanent protection for the property's diverse Ozark ecosystems which include forests, glades, bluffs, streams and waterfalls. Waterfall Studio was named for the view from her desk. When she has time between design & illustration projects, Judith tends their organic gardens, writes, plants trees, hikes with their dogs Sophie and Gandalf, and watches birds.
Best known for her published illustrations of Angels and Santas, Judith creates heirloom vegetable drawings for the Seed Savers Exchange. She illustrated The Land of the Blue Flower, a children's book written in 1909 by Frances Hodgson Burnett and published by HJ Kramer. Judith has done privately commissioned paintings, and designed one-of-a-kind stained glass windows for private homes and churches in and around Eureka Springs. Currently she is illustrating Christmas cards for Sunrise Greetings and designing Santas for Demdaco.
